Enjoying the Magnificence of Tyntesfield

Tyntesfield is an estate located in Wraxall, Bristol. It is the setting for the magnificent Victorian Gothic Revival country house that is surrounded by beautiful gardens and vast parkland. This is a place you must not miss when you go on dog friendly holidays in Bristol. You will see spiralling turrets and pinnacles on the roof as well as ornate stone carvings and church-like windows. This looks like a fairytale mansion that is surrounded with terraced lawns that flow on to spacious parkland that is a showcase of the hundreds of trees planted by the family. The house was recently renovated and transformed into a place that is suitable for public display with the help of a £20 million coming from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The National Heritage Memorial Fund and private donations likewise contributed to the renovation. Here are some interesting information about Tyntesfield that would truly tempt you to go and explore during your dog friendly holidays.

History

Tyntesfield was bought by William Gibbs who made his fortune from a monopoly on guano, a fertilizer from South American sea bird droppings. He bought the Tyntes Field in 1843 and converted it from a simple regency house into the Gothic masterpiece that it is today. To maintain the place, there were 19 servants as of 1891. Richard Gibbs died in 2001 and was the last member of the family to life in Tyntesfield. The Gibbs family loved beautiful things and you will see well-preserved treasures that have been collected by four generations of the Gibbs family. You will see over 50,000 things that make it the biggest collected that is owned by the National Trust. You will see picnic sets, ornate furnishings and even ice skates. It shows visitors a glimpse into the life of a wealthy family.

Activities to Do

The primary activity you must do when you go to Tyntesfield during your dog friendly holidays is to do a tour of the estate. The house is a treasure chest of the largest collection of fascinating objects that you will really marvel at. There are 106 rooms in the house. The servants' rooms are full of glasses, pans and scouring brushes. There is an interesting giant moose head and electric scoreboard at the billiard room. You must also see the magnificent chapel which was purpose-built in the estate in 1873. The garden is another magnificent place to take a walk in. Bring your children to the Plantation Wood and enjoy the different views. There is a play trail where you can discover a lot of fun places.

Facilities

The recent renovation included converting the Grade II Victorian model farm buildings into the visitors centre. This is where you can find the Cow Barn restaurant and café that serves great seasonal local food. When visiting Tyntesfield during your dog friendly holidays, you will never go hungry with the delicious lunch, coffee and homemade cake at this restaurant. The menu varies depending on what is delivered by the local suppliers. The visitors centre also houses the Home Farm Shop if you are planning to do some shopping and take home with you gifts, home ware, crafts or some food and drink items. These beautiful things are displayed together with the original Victorian troughs and stalls which is a reminder that this place was once a working farm.
